But does it work?

I quote you:

choose some changes and try to update after this, you will get a blank screen."

I don't think this patch should be used as-is before not some question are 
answered:

Why is edit data not an array at this point? Why does this happen with the 
TV page and standard page module? What is this "blank screen stuff"?
