In that world this wouldn't be a problem, because IM would never change
behaviour so drastically between minor sub-versions :-) ... and change
it back later on

Whenever it can the Install Tool already enables and disables some 
settings based on the tool / version which is selected. With the large 
amount of releases and variations on sub-sub-subversions, it's 
unfortunately not feasible to automagically have the right settings.

Anyway, IM6 and GM don't need too many tweaks. With both present on my 
development system the Install Tool already detects both and suggests 
settings for GM.
