Another point I wanted to answer. I think optimizing FE user management 
would be very good. I never sat down to really analyze this process, but 
I did some general investigation on a client site with lots of FE users 
and I was appalled by the number of queries TYPO3 used, even without any 
login. Of course it takes someone who is motivated to dig into this 
rather messy part of the Core.
