that's exactly what the already committed sprite-icon-api does...

But it has not much todo with this one here... It's more about: "How to 
get css-classes into the backend-stylesheets for Icons which are not 
part of the core". Because, there won't be a css-background defined.

Sprite-Icon-Api Displays Sprites-Icons in Backend.
This one is for generating sprites or in minimalistic configuration just 
css-background-classes for all icons where t3skin delivers no sprites.
