Quoting a post from 11/26/2009, topic "Announcing TYPO3 4.3.0RC2" (not
really 4.2->4.3, but close). Development of 4.3 took roughly ~1.5 years:
Just for the records: Some stats of what happened between release of
4.2.0 and 4.3.0-rc2 in trunk:
- Raised svn revision from 3630 to 6565
- 1629 Changelog entries
- 1712 files changed
- 293888 line insertions
- 40473 line deletions
Cheers

PS for you statistic / performance addicts:
I just hacked up a nifty performance statistics module to compare
different caching framework backends under different use cases. This
idea came up after recent changes to the framework.
Check out enetcacheanalytics from forge [1], it now comes with a second
main module which is able to run testcases on all available backends.
I'm finished with data gathering and display for now and will dig next
into some of the core backend implementations to squeeze more
performance off them (now backed up by real time metrics). I already
have some patches lying around and we'll see several performance
improvements in this area for 4.4.1. New goal is to make memcache the
best scaling backend implementation in real life use cases.
