But to not only rant: Yes. version 4.4 really brought some very nice 
changes. The new skin is quite different to previous ones and looks very 
nice. I think it also gives more contrast at many places, easing your 
eyes while working.

I already worked with the SVN trunk version for quite a time and found 
it really nice to work in the new system. I am working on Ubuntu Linux 
all the time so you can be sure it also looks well there. I should also 
note that recent versions of Ubuntu have a style which matches the style 
of the new backend very closely. So it seems either TYPO3 has been made 
for Ubuntu Linux or vice versa ;)
