[TYPO3-mvc] ext:vhs correct usage?

I just installed the extension 'vhs' 1.8.0 into my TYPO3 6.1.1 without 
further configuration as I find no manual or explanation. without usage 
of anything the page got broken with this error message:

Fatal error: Call to a member function getConfiguration() on a 
non-object in ..../typo3conf/ext/vhs/Classes/Service/AssetService.php on 
line 149

which configuration or extension is missing?
