[TYPO3-mvc] How to access typoscript properties in viewHelpers?

why do you need access to those settings in your repository? I'm not 
sure if a repository should contain the logic to determine the correct 
settings - maybe better pass the needed values as arguments to your 
repository methods? That's at least what I did for things like 
'itemsPerPage'/limit etc.
