[TYPO3-mvc] count the number of relationships

Hi list,

is there a way to count the total number of relationships between objects?

I am building my own blog extension for fun, just to see what I run 
into and this is one thing: if I want to make a tagcloud, I want to 
know the relevance of the key compared to the other tags. In order to 
get the relevance I need to have the total of all the relationships 
(and per tag of course, but that can be achieved by using <f:count 
subject="{tag.posts}" />).
