really cool work. The main problem I see is that the patch for core will never go through the core-review.
Remember the discussion with FE-Plugin registration!

So the only way I see, is to provide a patch for mod.php and t3lib_loadmodules.php, which "simple" implements a hook.
And this hook can be used by extbase to have this functionality. What do you think?
