[Typo3-shop] extending product search

Hi,

I need to extend the tt_product search to include some DAM parameters as 
search criteria. So I did a XCLASS of the class tx_ttproducts_div. But 
it seems like we cannt XCLASS tx_ttproducts_div as no instance of the 
class is being made in the tt_products code.  *Am I right here?*

Is there any other approach?

Any comments welcome.
