[TYPO3-shop] Stock management - again

I have installed tt_products v. 2.5.0 under Typo3 v. 4.0 for my on-line
shop.

I would like to use the extension to manage stocks, but the number does not
reduce when ordering.
I have included the constant

plugin.tt_products.alwaysInStock = 0

I have tried all possible combinations of setting up the shop with ordinary
products, variants, articles etc., but in no instances the number is
reduced.

Also when including the constants

plugin.tt_products.showNotinStock = 1
plugin.tt_products.notInStockMessage = Not in stock

no error message is shown, when ordering an item that is out of stock.

I am aware that the same question was forwarded in June by Aurélien Simonet,
but the answer was not very useful as it did not address any solution to the
problem. I hope that anyone can guide me through getting it to work.
