[Typo3-shop] Can't get product list to display

Hi,
Obvious newbie question here...

I just installed tt_products version 2.2.8.  And I can not get the 
product:list to display on my page.

template file is set.
plugin on page, with display mode set to products:list
starting point set to sysfolder with all the categories and products.
all "in stock" values 1 or higher.

I am sure it is something simple, but I can't find it.  I have checked 
an old testsite, but it is the 1.2.7 version. I have gone thru the 
tutorial and think I have everything right. Again, this is not the 2.x 
version.

Is there something else I need to put in my html file? I thought I just 
need to add the line below to include all the markers.
plugin.tt_products.file.templateFile = 
fileadmin/tmpl_files/products_template.tmpl

Any ideas where to look on what I am missing?
