I don't see a reason for holding it back - if it's marked as unstable / 
alpha, the developers are not responsible for any damage that my be 
caused by bugs.
If you want to make a real test-drive of the extension then release it - 
the more eyes are looking on the code, the more bugs are found and so 
on. (I mean that's one of the big pros of open source development...)

On the other hand it will surely get this whole thing going with the 
peripheral work, like tutorials or other documentation and it will 
inspire people to actively contribute to what exists by now.
