no I am talking about the rendering process of TYPO3 in the FE ...

you can debug that quite easily by checking 
$GLOBALS['EXT']['news']['alreadyDisplayed']

btw the list plugin needs to enable this exludedisplayed feature in the 
flexform setting too.
