[TYPO3-ttnews] Recommended approach when customizing template

Hi,
I recently moved from tt_news to the news extension. It's kind of the
first time I really got in contact with the new templating system.

So I'm wondering, how do I properly adjust templates for the extension?

For example, I wanted to remove the social networking buttons from the
detail view. I couldn't find an appropriate TypoScript setting so I
went to the Detail.html. I didn't want to mess the file up directly
because an extension update would overwrite it.

So, do I have to make a copy of the full Templates/News folder and set 
my copy as plugin.tx_news.view.templateRootPath?

What it the usual approach?
