[TYPO3-ttnews] tt_news 3.0.1 and default news id - first news item disappears from list

I have upgraded from tt_news 2.5.2 to 3.0.1.  Running on typo3 4.2.12 .

I am using the option to have a default news id as described in the manual
modified to work with templavoila.  It worked fine in 2.5.2 and almost works
except for a strange thing in the 3.0.1 version.  When the page is hit, the
first news item shows in single view.  But when you click on another item
from the news list, the default or first news item does not reappear in the
list view.  And as you continue clicking on news items from the list, that
first item never does appear back in the list view.  But it does appear in
the previous and next links in the single view.

I can send a link to a live page so you can see.

Any thoughts as to why the first or default news record seems to not get
placed back into the list view when clicking on the next news item?  Anyone
else using the default news id setup see this?
