Thanks for giving some news about this. I'm very glad to hear that 
tt_news v3 is not a stillborn project.

Sure a helper script would be fine, but it would also be useful to know 
that problems Rupi expects to happen when migrating from 2.x to 3.x. And 
as Krystian said, it would be nice to have a list of new features, so 
that we know what to test...
