I think it is because typo3 treat images inserted in the RTE as a part of the content - as a string , so it is not an image but a img tag, a passage of the whole text of the news.

Now I see. That is then a different story when inserting it into the
RTE. Yes, everything which goes into the RTE is parsed as content
(bodytext). I do not know a solution to your issue. The only thing I cam
think of is not to display the COBTENT marker in LIST and LATEST and
show only the TEASER or SUBTITLE field which contains no images....
Or does anyone else have a solution to this?--
