I wish I had something to accomplish this as well.

Seems like plaintextLib.inc/type=99 could do the trick (it converts text and 
textpic content elements ok) if we could just feed the tt_news content to it 
somehow.

I'll be pondering this further... please let me know if others have ieas for 
how to make it work...
