[TYPO3-ttnews] tx_ttnews[pointer] blanks out related by category menu

I have a tt_news install that I am using as an article system. I have a 
layout that shows related articles which should be all in the same 
category. Works fine from the first page of the list view but on later 
pages the wrapper for the related articles shows up but is empty. I 
happened to stumble across the fact that if I removed the 
"tx_ttnews[pointer]=x" from the url the list renders fine. Since the 
pointer is just for telling the list view what page to use when going 
back to it, I'm not sure what the connection is.
