 From what I read in the forge issue: no.

Gridelements is meant to be a replacement of TemplaVoilà (at least 
according to the author and the major sponsor).

It is very well possible to have an installation where part of the sites 
use TV and others use automaketemplate, fluid, or other templating 
mechanisms. But from the comments in the forge ticket you mention it 
seems very unlikely that it will ever become possible for gridelements 
to live peacefully together with TV.
