You mention an upgrade. Did that really go right? Did you remove the 
js/css files in typo3temp, cleared caches, etc. if it was an upgrade 
from 4.4 or lower?

Above the tabs 'Lokalisierungsansicht', 'Nicht verwendete Elemente', 
'Erweiterte Funktionen' there should be darkish grey bar with a series 
of icons (one of them the preview icon you're looking for).
