There is a nice doc with useful yet simple examples [1].

One thing which is a bit missing everywhere is a "HowToRTFM" ;-) for 
TSref [2].
Some useful pointers:

1. Each property in the TSref has a column 'Data type'. The things you 
can do with each data type are described in a separate section in the 
beginning of TSref [3].

2. Some of the data types need more explanation, so these are described 
in the section 'Functions' [4]. For example the CONTENT object has a 
property 'select'. This is of Data type: ->select. In the 'Functions' 
section is detailed description of what you can do with a 'select'.
Another example: in the "Data types reference' section there is a type 
'imgResource'. This type also has a more elaborate description in the 
'Functions' section.

3. Properties are listed in the order in which they are applied. For 
example in the 'stdWrap' chapter of the 'Functions' section you can find 
all the properties of stdWrap. In the list 'wrap' is listed above 
'wrap2'. This means that 'wrap' is applied first and after that 'wrap2' 
is applied.

There are many typoscript snippet sites which can help you. The 
Typoscript Object Browser in the backend is your friend. You can find a 
lot of useful things here.

But the best advice will always remain: wear sunscreen [5][6] LOL
