I made the template XHTML 1.1 valid and nothing changed.

Today I have found the problem though. It's a bit embarrasing for me to 
admit but TV was not to blame. It was an error in the news template, an 
extra </div> between the NEWS and CONTENT blocks. I must say that I am a 
bit diappointed with myself. I have been trying to fix this problem for 
days now, and then I realize it was just a small flaw that I should have 
noticed right in the beginning.

Well, well. That's the way it is, sometimes.
