[TYPO3-Solr] No curl support in EXT:solr?

Hi!

I just came across http://forge.typo3.org/issues/39493 after having major 
connection issues with EXT:solr 2.8.2. It seems that curl support is 
removed and we have to enable allow_url_fopen in php config, which is a 
major security risk.

I could not find any explanation why this change was made. Is there any?
