[TYPO3-dam] Limiting image upload size

I'm maybe getting close to this. The documentation for dam_cron mentions 
setting a cronjob to resize images. I'm wondering however if this would 
be easier to do just on the server (outside of TYPO3).

Has anyone done anything like this before?
