simply remove the marker from template - it's not really a server error, 
but a bug in commerce.

Commerce is waiting for a returning result from 
t3lib_div::plainMailWhatever - but there is nothing returned from this 
method (it's not supported by typo3), and thus commerce always is 
thinking the mail was not sent.

But this is a really old bug and you could have found some answers in 
this list.
