[TYPO3-project-4-3] Beta 2 interface issues

I'm having two major issues running beta2, and hoping someone could 
either confirm, or point to what I'm doing wrong.

1) Running on PHP 5.3, I get a BE that's missing module headings and no 
page tree. Needless to say, its completely unusable (see screenshot).

2) In FIrefox on Mac OSX, I'm unable to login into an instance. Same 
system is fine in Safari.
