We thought about this solutions in our work. Anyway external caching 
application like squid is good but you have very limited control when 
and how deliver new content.
In evo_nginx_boost we implemented lot of features to clear cache very 
flexible: sending POST, expire time, excluded urls etc.
We can also implemenet this features in other extension to control 
memcache directly.
