[TYPO3-Performance] Where to put the "meat"?

We are restructuring our server architecture for use with Typo3, and
need to decide where to put more server power. We need to create a
scalable structure, that can support 30 million page views a month, and
be easily expanded upon site's growth.

Here is the question - where should we put more server resources - DB or
processing servers (Apache & PHP)? Right now we're thinking about
clustering our processing servers, since that's easy to do, and
eventually (but not at this time) clustering the DB (saw the Sequoia
presentation on T3CON 07, something like that). Would a DB server become
a weak link in the architecture, and slow down the page response time,
while the processing servers would be underutilized?

Thoughts?
