That is of course correct.

But one of the four P's of marketing is pricing and making an attempt to
stop someone from dumping is not unusual. Actually it is something that
companies that have maintained very strong brands have been doing with a
vengeance. (e.g. Oakley)

I am not saying this ebay instance is very clever, but it is also not as bad
as you assume. It won't hurt in any case. And it's fun, which is good for
team building (remember: we don't have one)

Of course his work will be worth naught in terms of quality, but even making
a point about that with him might help.

And since you're all a bunch of marketing pros: may be this case serves to
proactively reduce cognitive dissonance in existing customers.
