Ahoi chaps(esses);
On my recent investigation about re-branding OpenSource Software issues and
procedures, I just stumbled across an extremely impertinent (DE-aka:
"DREIST") phenomenon:
http://www.luxuriousity.com/
basically rebranding and "selling" ( that is distributing, incl. via eBay):
- OpenOffice ( as MS Office - Clone)
- Compiere (ERP/CRM Suite)
- Gimp (as Photoshop Clone )
and a few other's; [1], [2],
In addition, please note the "uggly" recent news about the OpenSource LMS
"Claroline" [3]
- NO, I don't want to start another Re-Branding-, Cloning-, CopyRight- or
Licence-Discussion in the size / quality, we already had (more than enough
of them);
- IMHO
http://typo3.org/1432.0.html et al. (see pointers) [4], [5], [6]
already point out most of the issues, which allow calming down any of these
efforts;
- YES, it seems to me, that quite some people still don't get it. (not
especially focused on Typo3)
- YES, I guess in some regards, we DO have to rethink the current aproach,
and act in the follwing directions:
- reconsider the current approach,
- join other OpenSource-Projects in regards to a joint effort,
- learn from other OpenSource-Projects (eg. Apache-Foundation, Mysql ....
you name .... ), in order to understand and implement some "best of breed"-
strategies.
Enjoy,
regards Georg, still dealing with one of those "hopeless" companies over
here, despite pretending to be in favor of OpenSource and even sponsoring
T3-projects (not so little), for already much too long - examples see below;
"Beko Informatik hat deshalb ein Open Source Content Management System
namens CMS4free entwickelt"
[7]
"icms4all" and somewhere pretty small: "powered by TYPO3"
[8]
PS: I'd enjoy to see the upcoming discussion, NOT being focused on specific
violations, though rather on the above mentioned general approach and on
how we will preemtive cope with the apparently upcoming challenges - Thanks.
