Hi folks,
Hi Sander and Michelle,
> On .com there are no other dutch consultancies listed but netcreators...
> There are also very few educational references, but they are real.
I received no reply from you on this?
So onward with TYPO3.com:
Here is the list of To-dos:
1. Template
I am waiting for some finishing touches to come from the demo site, then I
will migrate a final version over to the testing tree on TYPO3.com.
I expect this to happen no sooner than mid January.
At the same time TYPO3.com (only) will be configured so that it will make
use of a proxy for speeding it up. JH and Jan Wischnat will be testing
template parameters for this purpose at Kitzbühel.
2. Contents
2.1 Workflow
I have copied the existing pages to a new tree, which already held the new
start page with news-plugin and matching user accounts for Dominic and
Sander.
As for the practical progress of getting the new About-section done actually
really and entirely: I would love to have some comments in writing
(preferably on this list or in the WIKI) about the above by January 10th at
the latest.
If anyone would like to volunteer for any of the sections to start writing a
first draft, please send me an email after this date, so we can go into more
details.
I hope for these first versions to be finished by the end of January.
When a first version of each page is done (document-based, or by email) I
will paste these in the "relaunch-tree" and grant access to all who want to
help with editing and corrections.
This should be finished by mid-february.
2.2 Editing
2.2.1 About
I think we should have a very short overview of the dimensions in which we
describe the product, or rather, the perspectives of our visitors. They
should match the sub pages.
2.2.1.1 What is a CMS
This should still serve as the primer. I think it should have three
sections, each very short:
A. Definition/Principles
Separation of Contents from Design and Structure...
B. Content Management at Work
Diagram showing the Content Lifecycle
C. System Elements
There is a nice Diagram by Kasper, which has been beefed up by Dominic which
we could use.
2.2.1.2 Highlights
We have been polling this matter on this list. I would like to point out
just the top five (not in a final order):
* price and license
TCO and ROI, aspects of freedom
* usability/ease of use
I would love to see a little flash-movie here
* feature-richness
List of extensions, ten highlights
* freedom to extend and adapt
Open architecture yet defined API, rate of new exts being published,
* huge installed base including top brands
Just the numbers and link to references page
2.2.1.3 Feature list
We should look at CMS Matrix, OSCOM matrix, contentmanager.net matrix and so
forth to get a comparable set, that are really informing people.
2.2.1.4 Screenshots
Still a classic. I think we have to make a a stronger point about
customization, instead of the current listing of basic functions.
2.2.1.5 Price & License
I guess this mainly needs to be shortened and I have a collection of quotes
from Forrester, Metagroup, Brodeur and a lot of others on this matter, that
will help to show what advantages F/OSS-Software has and why TYPO3 is a very
good example. Anyway, it will get a lot less emotional than it is now.
2.2.1.6 Association
This is the backbone info on the organisation standing behind it. It will
get more info during next year, but I don't plan on doing something about it
in this run.
2.2.1.7 History
I am thinking of moving this to .org. Comments?
2.2.1.8 Snowboard
This should become "Events" or "Conference" (?)
New Pages:
2.2.1.9 Performance
This is George's suggestion, which I think is very good and should go after
Screenshots, before price and license.
Content has been discussed in the respective thread.
Obviously I would like to discuss the About Section with you first. I have
put this structure up in the WIKI at:
http://association.typo3.org/wiki/index.php/TYPO3.com#.5B.5B2._Product_commu
nication_on_TYPO3.org.5D.5D (watch out, different numbering)
The other sections (Customers, Demo, Support, Contribute) will need some
editing as well.
I will write another list on all of them after Christmas, as they seem less
pressing or already in progress.
Merry Christmas!
Daniel
