In terms of graphical tricks, I have lots of great code examples for the 
integration of flash and xml as well as the optimizing the gifbuilder.

For flash, I recently created an animated flash navigation and header that 
renders animated text based on a simple action script / javascript / 
typoscript combo.

(Notice the header and nav, both are dynamcally generated via typo3) I was 
also able to render text directly into the video components on the site.

In regards to the gif builder, For circman.com I created a css based 
multi-level navigation that generates graphical elements on the fly based on 
gifbuilder, not glayers.  The nav is almost completely based on nested ul 
and li's and css.  Check out www.circman.com, notice the drop down nav. Most 
of the graphical text on the site is created using gifbuilder components.
