I did more: 
I got typo3_src-4.5.33.tar.gz and dummy-4.5.33.tar.gz and unpacked it. Then I did the mysql and install thing. When I login to the backend I get an empty 'New Typo3 site' . Now I try to create a new standard page and get the same error:
 "2: SQL error: 'Incorrect integer value: '' for column 'backend_layout' at row 1' (pages:NEW53749615421b2)"
Then Install -> Database Analyzer -> Compare reports: 'Table and field definitions are OK.'
I have 51 tables
No errors in /var/log/apache or /var/log messages
The server runs on opensuse 13.1; php 5.4.20; mysql 5.6.12
