[TYPO3-linux] Cannot access typo3 in browser

I'm trying to install, learn and use typo3 v3.8.1 (quickstart) on a test box
before rolling it out to production. I have successfully completed the
initial install steps prior to using the 1-2-3 install tool in the browser,
but that's where I run into problems. I can't pull up the typo3 site in
Firefox to save my life...

I created a new virtual host .conf file and Apache can see it; I installed
the quickstart AND source code packages; I changed permissions as directed
by the Tgz-INSTALL.txt file... yet when I try to access the new typo3 site
in the browser it says "firefox can't find the server" or "URL was not
found"

I'm running RHEL WS4 w/ Apache (2.0.52), MySQL (4.1.12) and PHP (4.3.9-3.9).

Please help!
