[TYPO3-linux] Compaq proliant server & RedHat & XAMPP & TYPO3 = Big HeadAche

Hi everybody,

I have been so 'lucky' to get a customer who wants an intranet, and it
has to run on their own server, which is a Compaq Proliant Server with
two 36 GB drives - maybe 5 years old, and the motherboard has been
changed recently because it was defect.

They want it to run on Linux RedHat because they feel that it will be
easier to get support. Until now I have succeeded to get RedHat 8 up
running without problems. RH ver. 9 and 10 didn't find the harddisks!

But... it seems very complicated to me, because everytime I try to do
something I get messages like: Missing this and missing that...

I have installed XAMPP and this was really easy, because I am not used
to setup a webserver, so I chose the easy solution.

I have installed TYPO3 3.8.1 from a zip-file and the Install Tool works
out of the box. Finds the database and makes 29 tables as usual. When I
try to hit the BE with default password, I'm not recognized! And of
course I have tried to create an admin from the Install Tool option, but
with no result.

Another problem is that I can't see the images in the backend nor in the
Install Tool?

Any advice, ideas, input is appreciated

I consider to ask them to buy another server - what do you think?

Best Wishes
Søren Vedel
