Hi List,
I currently have Typo3 3.8 installed in the root directory of our
webserver. We had no shell access until a few weeks ago, but our
provider was so nice to enable it for us :)
So under the new circumstances, I would like to use symlinks when
upgrading to 4.0. In the doc_inst_upgr manual, under the topic "Using
the source distribution effectively" there is a nice description on how
to effectively use symlinks.
Basically, it is about putting typo3 in a subfolder like
typo3_src-3.8.0, and then creating a symlink in the webserver root
directory pointing to the subfolder. When you want to upgrade, simply
put the new source package in a new subfolder typo3_src-4.0, do all the
work necessary for the upgrade, and when everything is ready, just
change the symlink to the new directory.
The question now is this: Because our current typo3 installation is
using the .zip-package and is located in the root directory of the
webserver, what has to be considered when we move typo3 to a subfolder
and use the .tar.gz package with symlinks?
Regards,
Ro
