[TYPO3-linux] Linux success stories ?

Patrick,
Any modern Linux distribution or FreeBSD will run TYPO3 just fine with out-of-the box Apache, PHP etc. There will be no detectable performance gains/losses you could attribute to the distro. When choosing a distribution you need to take into account other factors, namely:
- which one will cost less (in time+$$) to support? If you have a buddy who is a Debian worshipper and willing and able to give you advice, go with Debian.
- which one provides the wider choice in hosting (i.e. offered and supported by dedicated hosting providers)?
In U.S. and Canada you'll find that RHEL/CentOS/Fedora are pretty much the standard among dedicated hosting / VPS providers, while other distributions are harder to find. In Europe, you'll find more offers with SuSE and Debian. Gentoo is dead (*ducks and runs*), Ubuntu is Debian for sissies - it's tomorrow's Gentoo and will be dead when Shuttleworth is done playing games and it's not fun anymore.
If you are planning to use shared hosting, the control panel software (cPanel/Plesk/Ensim) and the PHP/Apache settings of your hosting provider are going to matter much more than the distribution they use.

I'm wondering which Linux distribution you use for your TYPO3 server needs.
Is there any distribution I should keep away at all cost ?
Those I heard the most are:
Gentoo, Ubuntu Server, Mandrake, Red Hat/CentOS, Debian and FreeBSD.
I'm really interested in hearing your stories.
Thanks for your feedback,
Patrick
