Most importantly, judging by the RPM names, it's a Mandrake system,
while we were discussing Fedora Core. I assume Mandrake would be highy
similar but I know very little of the way PHP is built and shipped in
mdk.

Also, I am not sure what your particular problem with GD is, since you
aren't the one who asked the original question ;)))

So, let's start anew - please describe your problem ;))
