[Typo3-linux] php4-gd / Apache crashes

I've installed Typo3 3.8.0 on FreeBSD 5.4 with Apache 2.0.53 and php4 
4.3.11. Mysql connect works fine. Also phpinfo() says that all 
(including gd2) is configured correctly. My problem is, that in the 
install-tool, when I want to chose Basic Configuration, Apache crashes 
with a segmentation fault. This happens only when I have the module 
gd.so activated in the php/extensions.ini .
Before I get to the install tool, a popUp appears that gives me a hint 
what I can do when apache crashes, but that hint don't solve my problem, 
I can't find the function isPNG() in the class.t3lib_install.php file...

I'm happy about every hint.
