Well, as I said ... setting those options makes zero difference to the command that is issued to ImageMagick. I just tried the RPM for ImageMagick 4.2.9 (the ancient one that is recommended by the author), and it does not work at all, as it doesn't have any GIF support at all built in. If I try to compile that version with GIF support, then it fails with this error:
In file included from /usr/X11R6/include/X11/Xos.h:284,
from xwindows.h:15,
from PreRvIcccm.c:55:
/usr/X11R6/include/X11/Xarch.h:48: sys/byteorder.h: No such file or directory
make[1]: *** [PreRvIcccm.lo] Error 1
I tried forcefully changing the makefile to include a copy of a byteorder.h include file, but it just produced a longer list of errors.
Can anyone out there tell me why changing the ImageMagick options in the config has no effect on the command that is passed to ImageMagick ? I really want to be able to use this CMS for this pretty big project this person is doing, but it has to be started right away ... it's already been more than a week that I've tried to get it going ! Ack !
I have now tried Typo3 with these versions of ImageMagick:
ImageMagick-4.2.9-3.i386.rpm
ImageMagick-4.2.9.tar.bz2
ImageMagick-5.2.6.tar.bz2
ImageMagick-5.4.9.tar.bz2
ImageMagick-5.5.7-4.tar.bz2
ImageMagick-5.5.7-9.tar.bz2
And none of them will do a proper mask.

p.s. how do you reply to a message when you are in [the default] digest format ? I've just been copying and pasting the message from http://lists.netfielders.de/pipermail/typo3-linux/2003-June/thread.html
