[Typo3-linux] some help with unix install, no pages are found on the rootlevel!

I don't know if this is a common install error, 

I have the latest distribution of the UNIX package(i.e
tar.gz), my domain is hosted on an ISP who is running
PHP Version 4.2.2, server SunOS vaahtera 5.9 Generic
sun4u sparc SUNW,Sun-Fire-280R ... mysql 3.23 and
Apache/2.0.46 (Unix)

I installed quickstart

WHen I try to go to the front end I get the error 
Error!
No pages are found on the rootlevel!

for the backend I try and log in but I can't go in I
get the same login page over and over again .....

can anyone please help me ??!!
