[TYPO3-english] Creating a link to a pdf file

I watched a few videos on how to do this and followed the suggestions to link to the file using the file browser within typo3.

However,  when I test the link : nothing happens.  There are no issues with any links to graphics files in the site so I don't know what the issue is here.  

I uploaded the pdf file to the root of the images folder (its a simple site) and linked to that.

Does anyone know what I am doing wrong?
