You should have a look at the backend log first, sometimes exceptions are 
logged there.

Other than that, please turn on the debug settings in the install tool 
(debug configuration prefix). This should display you the real error message 
instead of a blank page. Don't forget to switch back to the production 
preset once you fixed the problem.
