You basically have a few choices:
- go back to PHP 5.3 (or 5.4); many Linux distros have LTS versions 
which will support PHP 5.3 or 5.4 for quite some time
- upgrade to TYPO3 6.2 (depending on the extensions you use it will be 
more or less work)
