Thank you for the informasjon that powermail 2.18 needs php 5.5 The problem with http 500 error was solved by changing php from 5.4 to 5.5.
I suggest that information is added in the powermail manual in "Upgrade powermail" https://docs.typo3.org/typo3cms/extensions/powermail/ForAdministrators/Upgrade/Index.html
I suppose there will be other people also will be surprised by this information.
