Hi Jim - thanks for your feedback! It's always great to see what other
(book-)authors do and what we possibly could improve in the future.

Our book is not the only Extbase/Fluid book and I would like to
encourage you to ask your questions in the typo3-dev mailing list [1] or
forum [2]. These channels are about TYPO3 extension development in
general and reasonably active.

This heavily depends on for which use case you plan to develop your
extension and which version of TYPO3 you are already using. TYPO3 CMS
6.2 LTS is the more stable version without a doubt, whereas TYPO3 CMS
7.x versions are still published as "sprint releases" [3], which means
they contain the latest features with all bells and whistles, but core
changes along the track possibly require you to update your code.

At this point in time (August 2015), as a beginner I would use TYPO3 CMS
6.2 LTS (more stable, more help from other developers available, etc.)

That's a good point and I really like this great initiative by Michael
Hartl.

I also totally agree with you on this point! Please note that the "TYPO3
Getting Started Tutorial" [4] is the result of a collaboration of a
number of people over years, voluntarily and very likely unpaid. It is
licensed using the Open Content License and you possibly noticed the
button "Edit me on Github" at the top-right of the page.

The TYPO3 Documentation Team encourages everyone to participate and to
contribute to any documentation, including the Getting Started Tutorial.

You referred to the screenshot in chapter "Introduction" [5] and you are
right: it's not up-to-date. How about you edit this page on Github and
provide a new screenshot? If you scroll down the same page, you also
find a note about how to report issues and what you can do to help
keeping the tutorial always up-to-date :-)

If you want to help the Documentation Team, a good place to start is
their mailing list [6].

Thanks again for your feedback re the Extbase Book and the Getting
Started Tutorial. For the latter I look forward seeing your updates :-)

Cheers
Michael
