Hi John, 

I guess it is a language configuration issue. 

- are all languages set up correctly?
- have you installed static info tables?
- after having installed static info tables, check the l10n configuration (via listview) - select the correct "source langauge"
- in the L10N Manager module, leave "Alternative source language" to "-default-", if you export the default language

- have you activated "Import as default language" before importing?
